Notice of Proposed Application and Public Hearing
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Atlantic County Board of Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing at its regularly scheduled meeting on March 3, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. to consider an application for a proposed Plan Amendment by Ordinance to the Atlantic County Solid Waste Management Plan (Plan Amendment).
The proposed Plan Amendment is for a Lateral and Vertical Expansion of the existing Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) Solid Waste Landfill, located in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.

Project Description: The Plan Amendment is intended to expand the Landfill to provide continued, environmentally sound and long-term capacity for the disposal of Solid Waste within the District of Atlantic County and specifically proposes the following:
- A lateral landfill expansion is proposed adjacent to existing Cells 2, 3 and 10 and would encompass 5.74 acres;
- A vertical landfill expansion would increase the currently approved maximum elevation from 145 feet to a proposed maximum elevation of 185 feet above mean sea level;
- The proposed expanded capacity would be a volumetric increase of 4,916,042 cubic yards for a total landfill disposal capacity of 18,971,085 cubic yards; and
- The proposed additional landfill capacity will extend the duration of the landfill operation by approximately 11 years, from 2029 to 2040.
- The landfill will continue to accept the same waste types: ID-10, ID-13, ID-13C, ID-23, ID-25, ID-27, ID-27A, and ID-27I.

The proposed Plan Amendment to the Atlantic County District Solid Waste Management Plan was prepared by CME Associates, dated 10/25/25 and last revised 11/24/25, is entitled “Proposed Phase 4 MSE Berm Landfill Lateral Expansion & Vertical Expansion to Elevation 185-ft”. The proposed Plan Amendment, Report and Map showing the boundaries of the solid waste management district and the proposed solid waste facilities have been prepared and are available for inspection at the Atlantic County Department of Regional Planning and Development, located at 201 New Road, Northfield, NJ 08225, and at the offices of every municipality within Atlantic County during normal business hours.
Written comments regarding the proposed project will be accepted by the Atlantic County Board of Commissions and by the Atlantic County Department of Regional Planning and Development.
