Second Aerial Mosquito Spray Scheduled for Thursday, July 24 in Galloway and Port Republic

Post Date:07/23/2025 4:33 PM

The Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Control has scheduled a second aerial mosquito spray for Thursday, July 24, between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM, weather permitting, for portions of Galloway and Port Republic.

The aerial spray is being conducted as part of an ongoing effort to reduce the population of adult mosquitoes and prevent the spread of mosquito-borne illness.

In Galloway Township, the areas to be treated are bounded by:  Route 9 and King’s Highway; Rt. 9 east to the E.B. Forsythe Refuge, from Smith-Bowen Rd. to Leeds Point Rd.; Rt. 9 east to the E.B. Forsythe Refuge, from E. Somers Landing Rd. to E. Chanese Lane.

In Port Republic, the areas to be treated are between Sooy’s Landing Road, Clark’s Landing Road and Mill Street on the west; and Chestnut Neck to the east.

Aerial spraying will be done using Fyfanon ULV, a trade name for Malathion, applied as an ultra-low volume aerosol. For health information about pesticides to be applied, call the Office of Mosquito Control at (609) 645-5948.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not require relocating or taking special precautions during mosquito control spraying though some may choose to avoid or minimize exposure by:

  • Staying indoors during application to immediate area
  • Keeping windows shut, window fans and window air conditioners off (or set to circulate indoor air) during spraying
  • Keeping children’s toys indoors
  • Keeping pets indoors, as well as their food, water dishes and toys

Residents can help reduce mosquito populations by removing standing water from their properties.
