The Atlantic County Library System has been selected as one of five public libraries to receive funding from the New Jersey State Library’s Expanding Digital Literacy grant program to support digital literacy initiatives.
The Atlantic County Library System will receive $24,500 to establish a digital literacy lab in its Egg Harbor Township branch that will host workshops and provide programs on job readiness, computer literacy, and entrepreneurship training through the Small Business Development Center, in addition to individualized one-on-one coaching.
“By improving access to technology and digital skills training we can help our residents gain the competencies and confidence needed to thrive in an increasingly digital society,” stated County Executive Dennis Levinson.
The Atlantic County Library System will also be invited to join a statewide learning cohort to share best practices, exchange ideas, and strengthen its capacity to deliver digital literacy programming.
“It is virtually impossible to find a task or activity that doesn’t require the use of technology, the internet, or Artificial Intelligence, yet far too many lack the skills or access to technology that supports full engagement in education, the workforce, health care, and more,” said Jen Nelson, New Jersey State Librarian. “Expanding Digital Literacy grants give libraries an opportunity to enhance and build their capacity to offer these life-changing tools and services
The Atlantic County Library System provides informational and recreational materials to help educate, enlighten and enrich the lives of county residents and visitors. Library branches are located in Absecon, Brigantine, Egg Harbor City, Egg Harbor Township, Galloway Township, Hammonton, Mays Landing, Pleasantville, Somers Point, and Ventnor, with a community reading center located in Buena Township.
