Atlantic County Announces Two Public Hearings for Meadowview Auction

Post Date:05/05/2026 2:34 PM

In preparation for a public auction of Atlantic County’s Meadowview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center located at 235 Dolphin Avenue, Northfield, the county will hold two public hearings to provide an overview of the auction process, description of the facility, and criteria for interested bidders. The hearings will also provide opportunities for public comment.

The first hearing will be held on Monday, June 8 at 4 pm at the Stillwater Building, 201 S. Shore Road, Northfield. A second hearing will be held on Wednesday, June 24 at 4 pm at the Atlantic County Institute of Technology, 5080 Atlantic Avenue, Mays Landing.

Potential bidders may review documents related to the facility as of May 7 at www.atlanticcountynj.gov/MeadowviewAuction. An auction will be conducted 90 days following the second public hearing with a minimum bid of $23.5 million.

County Executive Dennis Levinson is determined to protect the current residents of Meadowview as well as the employees during this transition.

“No resident will be displaced. They may remain as long as they wish, including the 30 veterans in our Veterans Wing,” stated Levinson. “We are also requiring the successful bidder to provide the employees up to two years employment with the same or better compensation as they now have. The protection of our residents and staff is a priority.”

Both hearings will be available in-person only. Representatives from county government will be available to explain the proposed sale and transfer of ownership and respond to questions.

By statute, the hearings must be held a minimum of 14 days apart with one hearing held in the municipality where the facility to be auctioned is located (Northfield) and the other hearing held in the county seat (Mays Landing).

Meadowview is a 180-bed long-term care and specialty-care facility that includes a 30-bed Veterans Wing. It is one of only three remaining county-owned and operated facilities in the state where there were originally 21.

It has become increasingly costly for the county to maintain the facility and absorb its losses. As a result, the Atlantic County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution in December 2025 to proceed with the sale of Meadowview.
