Significant Sites in Atlantic County

We invite you to join us in celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States by touring the nearly two dozen historic sites located in Atlantic County that have significance to the American Revolution.

New Jersey was known as the “Crossroads of the American Revolution” due to its strategic location between the British stronghold in New York and Philadelphia, the new nation’s capital. Local militia, including the Egg Harbor Guard, defended local farmers and fought against British and Loyalist incursions while area privateers raided British ships at Chestnut Neck, supplied American troops at Valley Forge, and participated in successful battles in Trenton and Princeton. The sparsely populated Pine Barrens was an ideal location to conceal equipment to support the Continental Army.

We hope you will enjoy your travels through scenic Atlantic County as you learn more about the events and activities that contributed to our nation’s history.
