Federal Budget Bill and SNAP
The president recently signed the federal budget law that does make a number of changes to the SNAP program.
Currently, we are reviewing the details of the changes in the new law and will have more information available shortly on MyNJHelps.gov.
If you don’t have a MyNJHelps account, this is a good time to create one. It is easy to link your case so you can complete various account functions online. If you include your email, you also can receive case information electronically.
The New Jersey Department of Human Services has issued several new updates regarding SNAP benefits.
SNAP Re-Certifications
To continue receiving SNAP benefits, your case must be reviewed periodically. During the pandemic, these re-certifications were paused and your benefits were extended. These extensions are being phased out. You will receive a Notice of Expiration letter in the mail from your local board of social services with your interview date or asking you to call and schedule an interview.
SNAP Benefit Changes
Temporary Emergency Supplemental Food Assistance Benefits
Starting March 2023, SNAP recipients will only receive their regular monthly benefit amount. The temporary supplemental emergency benefits provided during the pandemic will no longer be included. The minimum monthly SNAP benefit in New Jersey is now $95.
