The Statewide Respite Care Program (SRCP) is designed to assist caregivers by providing a short-term, periodic break from the demands of providing daily care for functionally impaired persons, including the frail elderly.

Respite services may be used for a caregiver to shop/do errands, get medical care, attend to personal matters, rest, vacation, have surgery/medical procedure, or handle an emergency. The services available include: home health aide/companion services, caregiver direction option, which is a re-imbursement service, social or adult medical day care, and short-term in-patient care in a licensed medical facility.

Program Eligibility

  • A New Jersey resident with a functional impairment(s), receiving daily care/supervision from an uncompensated caregiver age 18 or over
  • Care recipient must reside in the community
  • Care recipient must provide documentation confirming medical eligibility
  • Must meet the financial eligibility criteria:
    • Gross monthly income below $2,742 per month (single) and below $5,484 (couple)
    • Assets below $40,000 (single) and $60,000 (couple)

Cost of Services

The sliding scale ranges from 0% to 25% of the cost of services, based on the care recipients income.
