National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week 2025
In honor of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week we would like to recognize and say THANK YOU to our dedicated staff for the hard work they do every day, caring for our shelter dogs and cats. Stop into the shelter and show your appreciation!
Hours of Operation
The Atlantic County Animal Shelter is open for adoption services from 1-4 pm daily.
Surrender of owned animals are by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 609-485-2345.
Any incoming strays should be directed to the local Animal Control Officer for proper processing.
Donations Accepted
We appreciate your generosity, but we can only accept donations of food, towels, and newspapers. Please do not leave other items at our door! We thank you for your cooperation.

The Atlantic County Animal Shelter has full and part time job opportunities for animal attendants and technicians.
Adoption Fees
The following fees currently apply to the adoption of animals.
Puppies and Dogs
Fee: $110.00
The adoption fee includes mandatory sterilization, age appropriate vaccinations, diagnostic testing, a microchip and a free veterinary consultation.
Kitten and Cats
Fee: $85.00
Each additional Feline adoption: $42.50
The adoption fee includes mandatory sterilization, age appropriate vaccinations, diagnostic testing, a microchip and a free veterinary consultation.

Additional Fees
The following are also available for an additional fee:
- Home Again Microchip: $30.00

Community Partners
A shout out and big Thank You to the students, staff, and families of the Arthur Rann Elementary School in Galloway Township!
In a letter to the shelter they wrote: “The students, staff, and families of Arthur Rann Elementary School would like to donate pet supplies to the cats and dogs of Atlantic County. During our “Week of Respect” we learned about respecting ourselves, our community members, our planet, and our animal friends. We asked our students to demonstrate respect by donating supplies to animals that may need extra care and help. Thank you for accepting our donations and helping us show our local animals respect and kindness.”

NJ Low Cost Spay/Neuter Programs
You may be eligible to have your pet spayed or neutered at a discounted price at one of the participating veterinary hospitals. Learn more on the State's Animal Population Control page.

Attention Pet Owners: Atlantic County is required to provide you with the following information regarding the crime of animal cruelty, and how to prevent it.
- Guide to Prevention of Animal Cruelty Laws
- NJSA 4:22-17 Cruelty; certain acts, crime; degrees.
- NJSA 4:22-26 Penalties for various acts constituting cruelty.
